GeoHazards: Computation

Research at the center builds on computation using a combination of advanced models of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), remote sensed data, and geographical information science (GIS). One of our products is the TITAN2D code for computational modeling of granular and wet mass flows for volcanic hazards applications.

Ruapehu volcano TITAN2D
Ruapehu volcano in New Zealand where a large debris flow resulted from the breakout flood from a crater lake in 2006. TITAN2D was used to evaluate the potential consequence of large mud flow at Ruapehu in the year preceding the breakout flood.
